Backyard Genius Portable Light Tower

This is a portable light tower that I built for my son's elementary league football team, the Manheim Vikings so that they could practice after dark. I started with a tow dolly that previously used for towing farm equipment. I installed a frame between the wheels to hold a generator, and mounted a 20 foot extension ladder to the tounge. I made a light bar that slips into the end of the ladder, and ran an extension cord through eye hooks on the ladder. I also mounted a telescopic flag pole to the top of the ladder. I takes 1 minute to deploy the light tower by simply installing the light bar, raising & extending the ladder, starting the generator, and plugging in the lights. The unit can be hooked to a standard ball hitch on a truck to be towed back and forth to the field. It is also compact enough that 2 people can push it in to a storage shed. The team was able to get an extra hour of practice each night during the month of October.
